Three Chenango County football players invited to Ithaca College Skills Showcase

ITHACA – Held at Ithaca College on Sunday, July 9, the New York State High School Football Coaches Association gathered approximately 184 student-athletes together, to showcase their football skills for a multitude of college scouts.
This invite only showcase, saw high school football players from all around New York State – coming from the Albany Combine, Syracuse Combine, Rochester Combine, Binghamton Combine, Rochester-Buffalo Combine, and the Long Island Combine.
Representing Chenango County was incoming seniors Coy Austin of Greene, and Robert Shepard of Norwich, as well as incoming junior Eric Conant of Norwich. Tristan Austin, an incoming freshman from Greene, was invited to the skills showcase but was unable to attend due to personal reasons.
The showcase was broken down into positions, as well as offense and defensive workouts. Shepard, Austin and Conant – all coming from the Binghamton Section IV Combine in Union-Endicott, in early May of 2017.
Shepard competed in Ithaca as an Offensive Lineman – after putting up numbers at the Section IV Combine including: Height 6’0”, 250 lbs, 5.50 second 40 yard dash, 5.19 second Shuttle, 7 second 3-Cone Drill, 28.5” Vertical Jump, 9’3” Broad Jump, 16x185 Bench Press.
Austin and Conant competed as Running Backs at the showcase in Ithaca – after dominating the competition in Union-Endicott.
Conant managed to rank third in the 40 yard dash a 4.67 seconds, first in the Shuttle Run at 4.11 seconds, first in the 3-Cone Drill at 6.6 seconds, first in the Vertical Jump at 38.5”, with a tie at first at 10’5” in the Broad Jump.
Austin ranked first in the 40 yard dash at 4.55 seconds, seventh in the Shuttle run at 4.44 seconds, tied for fifth in the 3-Cone Drill at 7.15 seconds, seventh in the Vertical Jump at 32”, first in the Bench Press at 185lbs at 31 reps, and tied for first with Conant in the Broad Jump at 10’5”.
Impressively, Austin ranked in the top-seven in all six of the major categories measured at the Section IV Combine. While Norwich’s Conant ranked in the top-three in five out of six of said categories, in U-E.
College scouts and coaches from all around New York State worked with the 184 selected football players this past weekend – getting a glimpse of the upcoming talent as the high school football season approaches quickly.
